With concerns about health and safety, it might be hard to do many of the fun things you usually enjoy over this summer season. However, many places are taking extra precautions to keep you safe while your family is having fun. We were extremely impressed with the precautions taken at Mystic Aquarium when they reopened to the public this season.
My family hasn’t done much of anything since March. Our health and safety was my main concern when we decided if we were going to do any day trips this summer. After reading the precautions Mystic was taking we decided to head down for the day and visit one of our favorite places.
Before you take the trip to Mystic, make sure you grab your tickets in advance. They sell tickets for staggered arrival times throughout the day to limit the number of people visiting. If you go down without a ticket you are likely not going to be able to visit (some tickets may be available if they haven’t reached their limit but I wouldn’t chance it). Make sure you bring your mask because they are required both inside and outside. When you arrive you are shown to a line for temperature checks. The line moves quickly and you are in and out.
When you enter the aquarium grounds you’ll notice some things have changed. The food traffic is one way and there are clear markers around the exhibits where you should and should not stand to properly social distance. I have to say that this made it so much easier to see all the exhibits. I loved having the space to see the animals. Everyone was following along with the guidelines and the staff was friendly and helpful as they always are. There are hand sanitizing stations throughout the aquarium as well.
With the things that have changed, it’s important to talk about some of the amazing things that are the same. They still have the amazing animals you know and love. The beluga whales are still friendly and silly and the highlight of our visit. You are still able to touch the little sharks and feed the rays… just spaced out!
I felt safe the entire time we were visiting Mystic. I was extremely impressed with the precautions they have in place to keep their guests safe while they visit. You can visit MysticAquarium.org for more information and of course to buy your tickets in advance!
