Don’t Fear Getting Older

With so much to worry about, it’s a little silly that you’re bothered about your age. Isn’t it only a number? Too many Moms, aging is a scary thought because it involves much more than wrinkles and aches and pains that never existed.

Kids fly the nest, relationships are tested, and the nursing home starts to appear on the horizon. On the face of it, it seems as if your fears aren’t misplaced. However, there’s no point in stressing over something that you can’t help. Not only that, but there’s a lot to look forward to in your golden years, as the following can attest.

You Will Be Less Self-conscious

It’s tempting to see society as ageist. Old people are almost demonized for the simple fact they aren’t young. The youth, you’re led to believe, is the future and understands things that other demographics can’t. Of course, this isn’t the case as one thing that you comprehend better than anybody is how to age with grace. Without the pressure of looking flawless every time you leave the house, you’ll be able to accept yourself for who you are and not care what others think. Merely imagining the sensation is enough to send a shiver down the spine!

Nests Are Rarely Empty

Yes, the kids will leave and you’ll have to live through a period where you and your significant other transition into the new normal. Enjoy it while it lasts. Before long, the children will be back, and they’ll bring the rest of the clan! Studies show that once men and women start to have kids, they lean on their parents for childcare. Don’t fret because it’s only an occasional duty for most grandparents – only 22% do it regularly – which means you’ll strike the perfect balance between keeping busy and maintaining your downtime.

A Nursing Home Isn’t The Reality

Why? It’s because the majority of the aging population can continue to lead a normal life as long as they’re living in the correct accommodation. It might mean downsizing, or it could mean hiring home care services with in-house solutions, yet the fact is that you’ve got a while until you’re dependent on others. The tweaks don’t have to be considerable, either. Joan Erber, a professor emeritus of psychology at Florida International University in Miami, recommends cooking for fewer people and outsourcing household tasks such as the laundry. All it takes to retain your independence is to rethink your routine.

Working Part-time Is Fun

For a big chunk of your life, you’ve had to work out of necessity. That’s not to say you didn’t enjoy it, but there was a responsibility to pay the bills and take care of your family that was stressful. When the nest is empty and the mortgage is paid in full, you can retire. Or, you can work part-time because, and get this, it’s FUN! Yep, doing three days per week is a powerful way to socialize, earn extra spending money, and keep the brain ticking over.

Do you still fear getting older?
