New England Winter Break Guide #Travel

It’s cold outside and winter is still going strong. However, in just a few weeks kids will have a week off for Winter Break! We’ve compiled a list of some of the amazing events going on around Massachusetts and New England to help keep your kids occupied and having fun during break.

Blue Man Group Boston:

Blue Man Group wants Boston families to get creative this February School Vacation Week and will be offering free art inspired pre-show activities appropriate for kids of all ages. The week also includes added weekday matinees and exclusive restaurant offers for ticketholders that will enhance the overall show experience. From Feb. 18-24, Blue Man Group at the Charles Playhouse will host 18 shows, including added weekday matinees at 1:30 pm and 4:30 pm, that are great for families and visitors to Boston.

At these shows, kids and adults alike can get their creative juices flowing even before the show starts with face painting Monday, February 18-Wednesday, February 20 or a decorate a mask activity Thursday, February 21-Sunday, February 24 in the lobby prior to the show. Audience members can join the Blue Man tribe by choosing or creating their own design with glow-in-the-dark face painting or using various materials like feathers, gems and paint, they can create their very own mask that guests can wear during the show. Tickets start at $39 and can be purchased online.

HARLEM GLOBETROTTERS

Committed to bringing fans the best experience and most electrifying athletes on the planet, the Harlem Globetrotters will give their fans a chance to get closer than ever to the action and team’s stars with their brand-new Fan Powered World Tour. The tour will come to the Tsongas Center in Lowell, MA on Feb. 17 at 2:00 pm!

At each Globetrotters game, there will be over 20 opportunities before, during and after each event where fans will get a chance to directly interact with the team’s stars – that’s a 30-percent increase over any previous Globetrotters game. It’s a great way to get in on the action and out of the cold for an afternoon of Basketball fun! You can find tickets to the Lowell, MA game at the Tsongas Center website. Magic at the Springfield Museums

There’s mischief afoot! Enjoy strolling magic in the galleries, try your hand at a variety of magic tricks, pop in our wizard photo booth, make your own potion and more. Free with museum admission!

Jungle Jim presents Harry Potter Hogwarts Academy, 2 pm. The Harry Potter Hogwarts Academy Training is a fully-interactive program that prepares participants to become wizards themselves! Professor Jungle-Flick teaches children how to perform their own magic, play some Quidditch and even learn Defense Against the Dark Arts! Over a dozen volunteers participate in this performance, and the whole show is a lot of fun. Get your camera ready, because you’ll be catching some great shots of your patrons laughing, smiling and having the best time of their lives! Find more information here.

Museum of Science Winter/Spring Exhibit Openings February 14-16

This February break, the Museum of Science is the perfect destination for families of all ages with two new exhibits and a new IMAX film opening just in time for the winter school vacation. Find out more and grab your tickets at www.mos.org.

Nature’s Superheroes: Life at the Limits opening February 14. This exhibit offers a fascinating glimpse of the breathtaking diversity of the natural world, featuring life-size and larger-than-life models, videos, and interactive exhibits. Nature’s Superheroes highlights an array of organisms – plant and animal, aquatic and terrestrial, vertebrate and invertebrate – with surprising ways of thriving in harsh environments. Features live animals, including the axolotl and the mantis shrimp.

Cuba, IMAX Film opening February 15. Cuba tells the powerful story of a land preserved in time, yet poised on the cusp of a dramatic change. Through the eyes of Cuban artists, historians, and scientists, the film provides an intimate look at this vivacious island community.

Wild Kratts: Ocean Adventure! opening February 16. Dive into the world of Wild Kratts® to explore the seashore, shallow waters, and the deep sea! Guests will join the Wild Kratts® team and use technology, science and teamwork to solve problems, help marine animals, and foil the villains’ nefarious plans.

    Oh the Harlem Globetrotters would be so fun to go and see live! I remember my parents taking me one time growing up. They always put on such a great game…show!
