Making Memories at Mohegan Sun #Travel

Part of being a mom is being around your kids…. all the time. I chose to keep my kids with me as they grew, starting my own school so that I could be the one raising them. I’m very lucky that I could be there while they grew but it’s hard. It’s tiring and I have children with me almost 24/7. We need a break every now and then for our own sanity. A night out is a rarity and a overnight is something that comes once in a blue moon. When we get the chance we want to make the most of it and really enjoy ourselves.

Recently we did get that chance. We were invited to Mohegan Sun Resort for a night away. Mohegan Sun is located in Uncasville, Connecticut.. a short drive from Hartford and Providence. This resort and casino is really like it’s own city. With two hotels, 40 restaurants and bars, three entertainment venues (including a 10,000 seat arena) and 250,000 square feet of gaming space, you’ll never find yourself without something to do.

We stayed in the newest hotel, The Earth Tower. Walking into this room you can tell this modern and spacious room features all the latest upgrades. With an in-room tablet to control your experiences, I was really impressed with all the modern touches. Our room featured a coffee bar, luxury bathroom, comfortable beds and modern lighting and touches. A mini-bar and room service is available for those who are their to relax. However, a short walk away is a luxury pool and spa for added relaxation.

Dining choices are endless, perfect for every palate. For dinner we stopped at Hash House A Go Go, a favorite from our trips to Las Vegas! Famous for their “twisted farm food” and extra large portions, we sat down to try their take on some of our favorites. We enjoyed fried green tomatoes with goat cheese to start the meal. The tangy match up was amazing and we easily finished the stack. I opted for a salad after our large appetizer thinking it would be on the smaller side. I was wrong. My salad with their famous sage fried chicken was absolutely amazing. The chicken was moist and full of flavor and their greens were crisp and fresh. If you’re headed to Hash House A Go Go, make sure to go hungry!!

We aren’t huge gamblers but still enjoyed walking through the different casinos. The gaming floor is expansive and features traditional games and the latest in electronic games. We played around in the slot machines as we took in the amazing beauty of the casino. Later that evening we were going to see a show in the Mohegan Sun Arena but we opted for a drink at COMIX before we headed over. If you are a beer drinker this is a must have. With a huge selection of beers on tap you will have no trouble finding a new favorite! They also offer beer tasting flights for anyone looking to try a variety of new brews.

The Mohegan Sun Arena is enormous. Sebastian Maniscalco, a hilarious comedian, had no trouble filling the stadium for his show. This arena hosts world famous musicians, comedians and acts. Artists like Katy Perry and Lady Gaga are among the upcoming shows held at this award winning arena. You can check out their schedule to find tickets and see upcoming events.

If you’re in need of a great getaway consider Mohegan Sun. Take in a show, do some shopping and enjoy a world class meal at a wide variety of restaurants. It’s a fantastic break for the stress of “mom life” and a chance to reconnect with your spouse. I’m planning a girls night away this fall so we can take advantage of their amazing spas! You can book your perfect getaway online on Mohegansun.com. Make sure to sign up for their email newsletters to stay up to date on the latest shows and specials happening at Mohegan Sun.

I’m not a big gambler, but if I’m in a place that has slots, I’ll drop a coin or two. It can be fun, for sure. 🙂
