Cirque du Soleil Kurios- Cabinet of Curiosities opens in Boston

Kurios

Have you ever wanted to do something and just never made it happen? Cirque du Soleil has always been like that for me. I’ve wanted to see a show my entire adult life but it never happened. The timing would be off whenever a traveling show was near and when we were in Las Vegas it just didn’t happen. Well, I finally got my chance and it was well worth the wait. Kurios-Cabinet of Curiosities delivered everything I imagined a Cirque show to be and so much more.

About Kurios- Cabinet of Curiosities

In an alternate yet familiar past, in a place where wonders abound for those who trust their imagination, a Seeker discovers that in order to glimpse the marvels that lie just below the surface, we must first learn to close our eyes.

In his larger-than-life curio cabinet, the Seeker is convinced that there exists a hidden, invisible world – a place where the craziest ideas and the grandest dreams lie waiting. A collection of otherworldly characters suddenly steps into his makeshift mechanical world. When the outlandish, benevolent characters turn his world upside down with a touch of poetry and humor in an attempt to ignite the Seeker’s imagination, his curios jump to life one by one before his very eyes.
What if by engaging our imagination and opening our minds we could unlock the door to a world of wonders?

Our Thoughts

We were invited to the Boston premier of Kurios- Cabinet of Curiosities. From the moment we walked up you are transported into a different world. The big top tent is an amazing sight to see and adds to the departure from reality. Jugglers and various other actors kept us entertained as we waited to take our seats in this Steam Punk themed show.

This being my first Cirque show, I did not know what to expect. As they got ready to start the actors engaged with various audience members keeping us entertained and distracted from the last minute set up procedures. The lights dim and a band starts playing (the entire show is accompanied by live music) and we are transported into the land of Kurios.

Thirteen acts make up this amazing show. They display feats of daring and physical strength as well as a treat for the imagination. These skilled actors that perform this show make you laugh and gasp as they execute daring acts of physical ability. I have too many favorites to list but I would have to say that Acro Net and the Upside Down World would be the two that took my breath away.

The Acro Net in itself is amazing. The whole idea of these stunts performed on a next is just amazing. This act takes you to the bottom of the sea as these artists, adorned in amazing costumes, jump and fly through the air. They lighten the death-defying atmosphere with humor as they fly to the ceiling of the big top.

The Upside Down World was a beautiful display. It opens with a dinner party that turns into a balancing act. An artist climbs atop balanced chairs on the dinner table. As he gets higher and higher you notice a mirrored display upside down on the ceiling of the big top. The two balancing acts come together in the middle and it is nothing less than breathtaking.

The show concluded with a standing ovation and we were forced back into reality. The only negative I could say is that now I have experienced the magic of Cique du Soleil, I NEED to see more!

I would love to take my family to a performance by Cirque du Soleil. Their work is amazing and I think it is great that it showcases their creativity and physical abilities without using animals in the performances.
