What Should Your Children Learn As Toddlers?

For kids that are just now entering into the world of conscious thought and ready to learn about life, parents need to be supportive. Toddlers from the age of 3 to 5 will learn a lot about life and play in just a short amount of time. However, it can also be a daunting task for parents to choose how they are taught and what subjects matters they wish to cover. Now more than ever parents have the freedom of expansive choice. You can give your children any kind of education you want. It doesn’t have to be at a school, it can be at home. However, it’s not just early education but people skills and being < a href="https://mom.com/kids/6307-how-increase-toddler-socialization/">able to socialize with their own age group. You’re also setting them up to be alone for long periods of time and helping them to cope with taking responsibility for themselves too. There are plenty of ways you can teach your toddlers vital skills at this point in their lives. This is why I love my career as an early childhood educator!

Basic visualized games

Adding up games are great for toddler development as they get their brains ready for mathematics when they enter into primary education. Try it out with visuals that they can relate to and touch. For example, ask them questions regarding basic addition and subtraction using fruit. The sum could be 5 minus 3, and by using apples or oranges, you can give them visual aids that are relatable to their everyday life. Matching shapes can also become visualized by using fruit which you can cut out. For example, you can cut triangles out of apples and peaches, as well as circles from oranges and bananas. Mix them up into a bowl and ask them to match the shapes with each different fruit.

Playing social games

It’s not just maths, English or science that you kids need to learn early on, but social skills as well. Take a look at this preschool approach, and how they see their role in toddler development. Together with other children, they will learn how to cook some basic treats such as biscuits, have an introduction to classroom mathematics, play music together and enjoy sensory play. During these social games, they’ll learn how to communicate with the other children but also, learn how they can work as a team. They’ll get to grips with the concepts of cooperation, understanding different viewpoints and playing with children that have different personalities to their own.

The schedule of life

The kids should also learn that life runs on a schedule. They must be taught to start getting up at a set time, having breakfast and being ready to go to school. You can do this by setting in a routine of waking up and if they can brush their teeth and get dressed before a certain time is a positive thing. It gets their mind sharpened to run like clockwork and their likeliness to complain about getting up early will diminish.

Toddlers are at that age in life when they suddenly must begin to get used to a routine. But it’s a great time for them to learn new things as well such as basic addition and socializing.
