Recognition in the Workplace

Working is something most of us have to do (even though I’m sure most of us would love to be doing something else). We spend a majority of our adult lives at various jobs, so the quality of life at these workplaces is important. If we don’t have a high Quality of Life while we are working, it will effect the other areas of our lives. Sodexo is a company that works with employers to provide the best quality of life services in their workplaces. They know employees preform better in pleasant working environments so they provide ways for companies to provide the best environments for their employees. Everyone wins!

Something that is so important in the workplace is Recognition. We all know how it feels to work really hard and not get the recognition for the effort you have put in. Studies have shown that when employees are recognized for their effort they continue to work hard. Recognition is a simple way to motivate people to work harder. Imagine working for a company where you feel like your efforts are continually appreciated…what difference would that make on your quality of life?

Recognition in the Workplace

I run a preschool with my partner and I know how much of a difference having your hard work recognized makes in your attitude towards your job. Because I own my own business the only recognition I get is from my customers (the children’s parents). I know that my job is really a job that gets very little recognition for my efforts and yes it makes it hard sometimes. I know that my business partner appreciates what I do and that makes the difference. I try very hard to recognize the effort that she puts in and I hope that this makes a difference in her Quality of Life at work.

It’s amazing that something as simple as employee recognition is not utilized in all workplaces. It doesn’t have to be a financial recognition (though I’m sure many would love that) but just letting an employee know that their efforts are appreciated and noticed. You can check out Sodexo to see their different quality of life programs and ways they can help! What type of recognition would you love to see in your workplace? Do you currently feel that your efforts are recognized by your employer?

Recognition in the workplace is a huge motivator. When your hard work is recognized – it pushes you to work harder and do even more!
