The Best of Raffi

I love Raffi! He was my favorite as a child and I remember singing his songs in my kindergarten music classes. We learned to play some of his songs on the recorder (yes I’m that old) and listening to his songs brings back a sense of nostalgia that is getting harder to find as I’m getting older. Raffi’s career has spanned decades and to celebrate his 40 years in music Rounder Records has released “The Best of Raffi”. This new album contains all of my favorites like “Down By the Bay” and “Baby Beluga”. Sharing Raffi with a new generation is something I really love about being a teacher and a parent.

Raffi has always held a special place in my heart. We were at an aquarium a few years ago and my Lovebug was having an absolute meltdown. Nothing made her happy (overtired kiddo). I sat down on a bench with her and started singing Baby Beluga. I don’t know how I remembered all the words to a song I hadn’t heard in decades but I did. It calmed her down and I’ve had to sing it every night since. It’s memories like this brought by a familiar song that will hold a special place in my heart.
