New Years Resolutions

It’s the first day of 2015 and of course the hot topic of the day is New Years Resolutions. Are you going to lose weight? Save money? Quit smoking? Almost everyone has something they want to change and today is the day (for most of us) that we focus on our goals and start again.

I think that looking at your life and evaluating where you are is a great thing. Life is a journey and if you don’t stop every once in a while to see where you are, you may end up lost. This is why I set goals on January 1st and try and evaluate them on my birthday (it helps that my birthday is in June so it’s halfway through the year). I’m hoping for more success this year by changing up my plan.

First I’m going to set specific short term goals (and make sure they are realistic). If your goals aren’t realistic you’re just setting yourself up for failure. Like saying “I want to lose 100lbs this year” isn’t realistic or healthy. Start with something small like “I want to lose 5lbs this month”. You can celebrate small victories and if you do better than yay you!

I keep my goals personal because I find it easier to accomplish things if I don’t feel like people are watching me try. However, if you’re one of those people that needs the encouragement, announce your goals. For some people, the support helps them stick to their goals. You know what works best for you.

No matter what you choose to do, stick to it. Make yourself a list and reward yourself for small victories. Set realistic goals for yourself so you don’t give up. You only get one life to live so make it the best you can!

I made no resolutions as I believe goals should be created and strived for all year round. Happy New Year to you as well.
