It’s summer time and what goes better with warm weather than grilling. We spend a lot of time outside during the summer and grilling is so convenient. There is just something about grilling the perfect hot dog and hamburg that just screams summer! It’s delicious and very kid friendly for those busy summer days.
We were given a chance to try Lightlife Smart Dogs as an alternative to our traditional hot dogs this summer. I have to say I was a bit skeptical. I haven’t had the best experiences with meatless products in the past and I was a bit hesitant to dive back in to that adventure. I have a beef allergy so I’m very careful with the type of hot dogs I buy anyway so if this works it could be a great alternative for us.
Well I made myself a Smart Dog to give it a try and I have to say it was nothing like I expected. It actually tastes like a hot dog. I know, I know I don’t know what I was expecting but I was really surprised how much like a traditional hot dog it actually tasted. The texture was a little different but nothing like I had experienced years ago. I’m sure if I had grilled them a little longer the texture would have been closer to what I was used to.
With only 50 calories, 2 grams of fat, 2 grams of protein and a whopping 7 grams of protein per dog, these are much healthier than the traditional dog. If you are looking for a Vegan alternative to a traditional dog this is a great and tasty option. Visit Lightlife for additional recipes and to find out where you can shop for these and other meatless products. You can also enter to win a coupon to try your own Lightlife product!
