Thank you to Foxwoods Resort Casino for hosting our fantastic family getaway. All opinions expressed are our own.
When you’re thinking family friendly getaways there may be lots of things that come to mind. On our mission to get away as a family and spend more time trying new things we have looked into a lot of different local destinations. We recently took a weekend trip to Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut and it was amazing.
Foxwoods Resort Casino is the largest resort casino in North America with 340,000 square feet of world class gaming space. The 9+ million square foot resort complex is comprised of seven distinctive casinos, four hotels with over 2,230 guest rooms and suites, 30 plus dining experiences, two luxurious spas, a number of exclusive retail boutiques, Tanger Outlets at Foxwoods, two world-class theaters, six nightclubs, a luxury bowling facility, and two award winning golf courses. There is something for everyone in this sprawling resort.
Our getaway started as we checked into the Grand Pequot Tower hotel in the heart of the resort. Our room, on the twentieth floor, was amazing with breathtaking views of the reservation and the Mashantucket Pequot Museum. Our room featured two queen size beds, a couch and table in the seating area, flat screen television, mini fridge and an amazing bathroom with marble counters and an oversized bathtub. The beds were comfortable and the kids had plenty of room to spread out. It was perfect for our family of four.
We headed down to explore and grab some dinner before our show. With so many restaurants it was hard to decide where to eat. We went with California Pizza Kitchen for it’s unique spin on food and family friendly atmosphere. Our server Amanda was beyond amazing, especially with two hungry small kiddos. See our full California pizza Kitchen review here. Sufficiently stuffed we had a show to catch in the Fox Theater!
Cirque Eloize Cirkopolis was a first for my children. I’m sure we have created monsters because they LOVED every second of this high flying show. The show was a great combination of circus, dancing, humor and theater. It’s set in a factory city where everyone dresses the same and leads a monotonous existence. The preformance was breathtaking and the actors amazing. The Fox Theater offers a wide variety of shows and tickets are on sale online or at their box office.
With the show going a little past the kids bedtime we headed back to the comfort of our rooms where we took advantage of the flat screen TV and watched a fun kids movie while the kids settled down. After an amazing night sleep and a quick breakfast at one of the great buffets, it was time to go back and play at the Tree House Arcade. The kids (and let’s face it the adults too) had a blast playing games. With two floors of choices there were games for everyone. From classic Pac-Man to newer games with amazing graphics, the choices were endless. We even earned tickets and scooped up some amazing prizes.
To finish up our getaway we headed over to the Mashantucket Pequot Museum and Research Center located just a few minutes from the resort (shuttles available). This museum shares the history of the local Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and other indigenous people of the United States. This museum is full of educational displays, interactive exhibits and historical videos. My kids loved the life size exhibits including the village that you can walk through and explore. I loved the way the museum chronicled the different time periods of the history of these people. Some parts of the museum are not suitable for younger visitors but they are clearly labeled and easy to navigate around.
We were lucky enough to catch “Eyes On Owls” while we were at the museum. This is one of the many different events held at the museum and featured live owls and their care takers. It was informative and the kids loved learning all about the rescued owls. We snuck in learning and the kids still had an amazing time! We finished up our museum trip with a ride to the top of the observation tower. The views were breathtaking and worth the wait.
Our mini getaway to Foxwoods Resort Casino was a great way to spend time as a family and have a blast! The resort is family friendly, the staff was helpful and we even had a chance to do a little shopping at the Tanger Outlets located in the resort! We can’t wait to go back and see the adult side of Foxwoods!
