MY REVIEW
Are you an anxious or worries parent? Do large crowds of people make you uncomfortable when your out with your children? I am a super anxious mother and going to super crowded areas with my kids is an anxiety attack waiting to happen. It’s not just the thought of someone taking my children (though that’s a real fear every parent has to deal with), it is the thought of my children getting separated from us. Kids are easily distracted, especially in a fun venue like the park or zoo. It’s easy for them to wander away even if your back is only turned for a second. Even though my four year old knows our full names and address, you never know what they will remember if they are panicking or upset. Numbers are hard to remember and I wouldn’t want my son to have the stress of trying to remember a phone number in an already frightening situation.
I’ve seen those temporary tattoos or stickers with all your information for children. I don’t like that because it’s publicizing your child’s info for anyone to see. I’d like to believe that the world is a safe place, but realistically there are people who would take advantage of visible information. I have always wanted an safe and secure way to keep emergency information. The ELPH band is a great idea to help ease some of this anxiety of crowds and children. All of your information can be accessed and the only thing visible is a band on your child’s wrist. You register online with your emergency info. It was really easy and I got to add three contacts to the list. I chose to add myself, my husband and my best friend. The odds of one of us answering are high, especially if we’ve lost our child! The only way to get this info is to call the number or scan it. You can also register any medical information that would be essential for a “helper” to know.
He band itself is made of silicone and fits my son perfectly. He liked wearing it because it looks like the bands his older cousins wear (though you could never tell from his photo-shoot). It doesn’t fall off easily and it didn’t irritate his sensitive skin. It also fits securely on his wrist but isn’t too tight.
The ELPH band comes with a book for the child. It explains what the band is and who a helper is. I never thought to explain exactly who to ask for help if they get lost! My son now knows who is a “helper” if he gets lost. The book explains that they should ask a police officer, parents with children or someone working behind a counter. I think that having the information printed out to read to my son made it easier to explain.
I know that I feel a little safer in large crowds knowing my son has this bracelet on. I have taught my son to stay with us and I’m a very vigilant parent but accidents happen and children get separated. Having an emergency back up is a great plan, even if we never have to use it!
