Birthday Resolutions

happy birthday

Well tomorrow is my birthday and time for my annual “Birthday Resolution”. This tradition started when I turned twenty. I found that the best way to celebrate my birthday was to do three things:

  • Evaluate my year so far
  • Decide what I want to change
  • Start one healthy habit.
  • So another year has come and gone and what have I learned this year? I’ve found out more of how I see myself as a mom and discovered more about how I want to continue as a parent. It’s the little things that are important in the grand scheme of things. The memories we make and how we spend our time.Is this insane temper tantrum really going to matter in five years? No… not at all. So breathe and focus on the positive parts of the day. These are the memories that will stick with you.

Sadly, I’ve also learned that I’m not in my twenties anymore and I need to accept that and make a commitment to get healthy. I spent a lot of last year with several ruptured discs (for the second time) and ended up having surgery. I missed out on vacation fun because I was in too much pain to walk down the beach with my kids or play in the sand. Not this year. I’m going to enjoy our family vacation, make memories and even make sure I’m in some pictures.

Oye, the healthy habits I want to start this year are numerous. I have a plan and that’s the important thing. I want to avoid some of the “later in life” medical issues that run in my family so change is needed now. It’s not just for me anymore but for my kiddos and husband. I don’t want to be a burden on my family or leave them too soon. It’s basically just selfish to not take better care of myself.

How’s your year going? It may not be your birthday, but it’s never a bad day to take a look a your year and evaluate your path. Are you where you want to be career wise? Health wise? Take a second to just sit down and really look at where you want to be at your next birthday. It’s your path to choose and your life to lead. The choices are yours alone….

This is such a great challenge to do each year! I hate my birthday every year, but this might give me something to look forward to. I’ll have to do it next year. Happy birthday!!

Happy Birthday! I like that you basically review, access and reevaluate life each year – that is a really awesome way to keep yourself in check and focus on things you can and want to change!
