When you have kids, it’s normal to want to embark on things just for you. For some of us, this is the only way to stay sane. It can feel good not to be ‘mom’ for at least some of your day. You may be a parent, but you deserve a strong sense of self as much as the next person.
We all express this need in different ways. For some, the odd pamper session is all it takes to feel human again. For others, embarking on something like new studies can seem like the way forward. This latter point is fantastic because it gives you something else to focus on and work towards. It can also help when you decide to dive back into your career. That’s because you’ll have a qualification to fill that gap in your resume and prove you’ve still got what it takes.
The question is, how can you make time to study when you can barely shower most days? As impossible as it seems, moms at all different stages manage to keep studies like these afloat. Keep on reading to find out how you could do the same.
For the mom with no schedule
Let’s start at the extreme end of the scale. Perhaps your baby is young, or your days are still in the process of changing. You have no schedule as such, so you have no clue how you could keep on top with studies. But, that’s not to say it isn’t possible. For one, online options like this doctor of nurse practitioner course or others like it could be your saving grace. That way, you can fit study sessions in whenever you get the chance. Bullet journalling your workload could also be your savior here. It’ll help you to keep on top of exactly what you need to do each time you sit down to study.
For the mom with toddlers
Let’s say you have toddlers running around and tearing the house to bits. In some ways, it can seem even trickier to fit studies in here, and online options are still your best bet. But, you do have a routine going for you, and that could be the best thing. Toddlers should take naps around the same time each day, for example. Getting straight to work when they get their heads down could be all it takes. Note, too, that a set bedtime is pretty crucial once kids get to this age. That means studying during your evenings could be all it takes to see you through.
For the school-age mom
Most would argue that school-age moms have the best of both worlds, and there’s no denying it. By looking for a course which meets mid-morning until just after mid-day, you would be ready for dropping off and picking up. You could even sit at the table and do your homework while your kids do to make sure that your studies never suffer because of your second job as ‘mom.’
