Have you been outside to play with your kids lately? Taken a trip to your local park? Well, hundreds of thousands of American kids will take part in a ‘national day of play’ on Saturday, May 20, to commemorate National Park Trust’s (NPT) seventh annual Kids to Parks Day. We love celebrating this event every year, though we spend time at the park regularly!
Now that my kids are getting a little bit older we can take advantage of other activities at our local parks. Though we still spend a significant amount of time at the playground, we are starting to explore as well. We’re really excited to get hiking this year and there are so many trails in the area that are fun and kid friendly. Hiking is great exercise and a great way to spend family time together outside!
Whenever I’m out walking with my kids we have the best conversations. They open up about their day, their fears and life. It’s amazing what you can learn when you take away the distractions of everyday life and just go for a walk/hike. There are also so many teachable moments when you’re on a hike. Show your kids different plants and animals ask them questions and see where you go!
Hiking is affordable fun too! It doesn’t take much to go for a walk in your local park. Grab some snacks and head out! If you’re looking for affordable footwear for your hike or outdoor time, check out Northside USA. They make amazing shoes and boots my family love at a price that my wallet loves. They are generously sponsoring a giveaway for my readers. You can enter below to win your own pair of Northside shoes!
Check out National Park Trust’s Kids To Parks Day site and find a local event. While you’re there pledge to take part in the event and be registered for a great giveaway! I love all the programs that National Park Trust offers to get kids out into nature and their amazing conservation efforts. Keeping people involved in nature is an amazing cause and I’m honored to be able to spread the word on Kids To Park Day!
