On our magical path to the park!

On our magical path to the park!

I love sharing nature and the outdoors with my kiddos. It’s so important to get kids outside to enjoy and learn from nature. I couldn’t imagine living in an area where there are no parks accessible for children.

We are lucky enough to have a small park a block away. It’s a neighborhood park and there is a path that cuts through a small wooded area and ends at the playground. Half the fun is taking the path to get there. We look for magical plants and pretend we’re on safari. It’s a special time we share in nature.

The park itself is small but that doesn’t’ matter. There are swings and a slide. Perfect for my kiddos. There is also a great big soccer/baseball field that we run around on. We run the bases, chase each other and just enjoy acting silly. These are memories I share with my kids that some families aren’t lucky enough to have. I’m happy to be working with the National Park Trust again to help ensure all children have these nature experiences!

National Park Trust

National Park Trust recently learned that their youth programs were selected as a National Park Service Centennial Challenge Project in honor of the 2016 National Park Service Centennial year. The National Park Service selected NPT for a one-to-one match of $450,000 that will result in a total of $900,000 specifically designated for the expansion of their school programs(Buddy Bison Environmental Education Program and Kids to Parks Day National School Contest). As we approach the new school year, NPT is asking for our help to raise resources for the Buddy Bison School Program.

Kids to park

The Centennial Challenge will allow NPT to be able to work with up to 60 Title 1 schools to provide multiple park experiences — at least one to a national park unit — throughout the school year, plus classroom toolkits full of resources and so much more! $10 provides bus transportation for one child for one park trip. There are more than 400 national park units across the country!

A $5 donation to NPT will become $10, and that is enough to get one child out to a park unit. For $5, the price of a Starbucks latte, you can be part of a grassroots movement and help children have a park experience who wouldn’t otherwise have one. Donate to NPT’s Centennial Challenge on their website.

What an amazing initiative! $5 is a small prize to give the kids an experience that will last a lifetime – especially teaching them about conservation as they visit these parks!

What a small price to pay and it looks and sounds like a wonderful experience. We are a nature loving family. No matter how hot it is outdoors (107 heat index lately ) the kids drag me outdoors daily. I’ll have to take the challenge with you.

The kids really love the outdoors, they love seeing the animals too. It’s awesome that you took the time to take your kids to the great outdoors and educate them about it. If we all did that, they wouldn’t be falling so in love with the internet.

I think parks are so important. After growing up outside as a kid (okay maybe my mom locked me out there) I realize how important understanding nature is.
