My Monster has had sleeping issues lately. Nightmares. I feel so bad because he’s now old enough to remember them and describe them for me. It not only breaks my heart, but it’s exhausting. He wakes up screaming and terrified and does not want to go back to sleep. I can’t blame him. We tried nightlights, thinking happy thoughts and even making sure he didn’t eat anything too close to bedtime. Finally, after talking to my friend’s mother, I decided to revamp her “monster spray” idea into something we could use.

So began our “Sweet Dreams Spray” routine. We had a lavender spray from a large chain store. I told him it was magical spray that would give him sweet dreams. BAM it works. Our nightmare issues have decreased drastically. I’ve always loved aromatherapy but now I swear by it. Bonus… his room smells fabulous all the time.

I like the spray we have but I wanted to make something that didn’t have any chemicals. Plus my “magic” is more believable when mommy is making it from scratch. I did some research and found that is really simple to make your own mist usingpure lavender essential oil and distilled water. I loved that this lavender essential oil was 100% natural and pure with no additives or preservatives. Now our spray is magical and natural!

SWEET DREAMS SPRAY

10 drops of lavender essential oil
4 oz of distilled or purified water
4 oz spray bottle (dark colored bottles help the spray last longer)

Add the essential oil to the bottle first. Then fill the bottle with distilled water. Shake to mix. Spray over pillows to bring on “sweet dreams” (my opinion of course). Did you know you can use your spray as a bug repellent? So many uses for your new spray!

I have yet to try essential oils. I have only heard great things. If this really works I would love to try it. I have an awful time lately at night as do my girls, which has been a struggle for all in the house! This could be very useful!

You know, for a while I was using this lavender and vanilla bedtime spray and it did wonders for my sleeping. I ran out and never bought it again mostly because the store I bought it at stop selling it. Now that I have a recipe, I’m going to try making my own. Thanks for sharing it!

Yes, lavender is so soothing. Also try playing soft music such as classical, gospel, and christian music while he is asleep.

We had rain forest sounds going for a while but it did more harm than good. We have lullaby music but I’m going to try to switch it up. Thanks for the ideas!

We use essential oils for our business and I absolutely LOVE them. Lavender is something I used to hate, but I’ve come to love it now. Especially for relieving stress and sleeping better.

I have heard that lavender essential oils are great for sleeping but I can see that the home made version with no preservatives is so much better. The dream spray is so good, another thing to call it is MONSTER spray (wards away mosters)

Lavender is so great. It comes in so many forms, but it’s awesome that you were able to keep it natural. Since my daughter has severe asthma and allergies, natural is always better in this house. Thanks for the tutorial!

I LOVE this idea! What a sweet mommy you are! I am so happy that it worked! Great idea. Thank you so much for sharing! It’s easy enough for anyone to make. I love how calming lavender is anyways. I like that you make it yourself, because you’re right, it is more “magical”. hehe love it!

I love using lavender essential oil at bedtime. It works great for relaxation and helps you drift off to sleep. Another tip is to use a glass bottle as it won’t pit the plastic.
