Gearing Up for the Spring Sporting Season

Spring is a great time for kids to play sports! The number one reason kids play sports is for fun. Reason number two is because their friends are playing. Physical activity is crucial for kids. Not only is it one of the best ways to fight against the childhood obesity epidemic, but getting one or more hours of physical activity per day can help promote a lifetime of health and well-being.

Soccer

Everyone’s path to the start of the soccer season will be different. Soccer is a speed endurance sport. Playing the game, you make repeated sprints over relatively short distances followed by short recovery periods of jogging. Your training should reflect this so you are able to maintain your speed throughout the game. This type of training will give you an advantage over other players. Keep in mind that speed endurance training will also train the aerobic system, providing you with very effective training. Just running at one speed will do you no good while training for the game of soccer. To make sure you’re in the right shoe, consider where you are practicing, as well as where your games are played (the surfaces may be different, and you may require multiple pairs of shoes). Lacrosse

Lacrosse is a physically demanding sport, and staying in shape is the best way to stay on top of your exercise is a great way to stay in shape during the offseason. You can be ready for the intense practices and games without having to endure a painful couple of weeks of training to get you back into shape. When it comes to becoming a successful lacrosse player, staying dedicated to the game during the offseason is an excellent way to stay at your top shape and constantly advance your skills, strength, and endurance. 

 

Softball

Eating healthy and getting proper rest will help you achieve your goals and stay healthy throughout the season. Hit the softball off the batting tee throughout the offseason. The tee is not just a tool for children who are learning to swing. It is used by high school, college, Olympic and professional players to help fine-tune their swing. Hitting the ball off the tee will help give you the batting stroke needed to hit the ball consistently. Hit against live pitching at least three times per week in the four weeks leading up to the tryouts to keep your swing sharp.
