Growing up I was a soccer player. I loved playing and had always believed my children would choose a sport to play and stick with it. With today’s childhood obesity epidemic, exercise is so important! Keeping them moving and active helps keep them healthy. Plus, there are tons of social benefits of being a part of a team. My little ones are still young and just starting out on their sports journey this upcoming weekend. However, between cousins and friends we are already part of a sports family!
No matter the sport, there are certain sports essentials you’ll need to start your journey as a sports family! Here is my top picks:
- Gear: Well this is an obvious one but still important. The gear is important no matter the sport. Finding the perfect fit is also really important and many sports stores can help with this. I vividly remember running out of cleats that were to big while playing and I even scored a goal with a cleat once…. not really what I was going for.
- Sun ProtectionIf your sport is played outside this is a must! I lather my kids in the sport brand of sunscreens. It doesn’t rub off with sweat and usually lasts around 80 minutes so we can get through a soccer game with one application (other sports may require more). It’s important for the fans on the sidelines to have sun protection too so don’t forget the sunscreen on yourself!
- Snacks I can not stress this enough if you want a happy experience. Nothing is worse then a kid that’s “starving” while you’re on a field in the middle of nowhere. Healthy snacks are great. We always did oranges or apples while I was playing. They are healthy, full of vitamins and kids love them!
- First Aid<While no one wants it to happen, having a first aid kit with you is always handy. Most coaches carry them but it’s always nice to be able to patch up the minor cuts and scrapes on your own.
- HydrationI think this is probably one of the most important things you can have on hand for your little sports star! Keeping your kiddos hydrated while they are playing is key to keeping them happy and healthy. They are running their little hearts out and need to replenish everything their losing through sweat. We were given a new sports drink to try out this season and see what we thought. We loved BODYARMOR sports drinks because they are made with all natural flavors and sweeteners with no artificial colors. It’s a great way to replenish all the electrolytes your kiddos lose…especially on those hot game days.

What is BODYARMOR?
BODYARMOR is a premium sports drink with more potassium packed electrolytes, coconut water and vitamins. BODYARMOR has natural flavors, natural sweeteners and no artificial colors, unlike traditional sports drinks. It’s a GREAT choice for young athletes especially, who don’t need all the extra sodium in their diets or the artificial ingredients that come from drinking other sports drinks on the market.
BODYARMOR comes in 8-great tasting flavors: fruit punch, orange mango, strawberry banana, tropical punch, lemon lime, mixed berry, grape and blackout berry. We tried several of these flavors and they were all great. My favorite was the tropical punch and mixed berry flavor while my kids loved the orange mango. We loved that it was made from natural ingredients and not full of chemicals like some of the other brands of sports drinks out there.
You can find BODYARMOR at our local Stop & Shop, Shaw’s, Target, 7-Eleven and Market Basket. Check online here for a retailer near you. You can download this printable coupon to save on your next purchase.
